Over the last two weeks, the Voice team have delivered a range of sessions and experiences for our children and young people including a creative Arts and Crafts session, where they designed Easter-themed canvases as well as personalised T-shirts, bags and caps. The group really enjoyed the opportunity to express themselves, and many took their creations home, with some even displaying their artwork in their bedrooms.
The multi-sports session at Broadwell Park was a great success. Young people engaged in a variety of activities including team games, football, basketball, badminton and hockey. The session finished with a picnic in the sunshine, which was a nice way to make the most of the warm weather.
On Tuesday, young people hosted the first ever Youth Justice event organised by the Unmute Us Justice Forum. This successful event welcomed over 50 young people, parents, staff and partners who took part in climbing, gaming, multi-sports and music studio sessions. There were also careers and skills advice from Council colleagues.
Everyone enjoyed Caribbean food, along with performances from young people involved in our Youth Justice Service’s MAC and Dignifi projects, centred on engagement and participation. The young hosts were fantastic throughout and unsurprisingly, feedback from everyone was extremely positive.
Yesterday, young people visited the West Midlands Police Museum for an insight into over 100 years of local policing history. They learned about life inside the historic cells including stories of notorious Birmingham figures such as the real Peaky Blinders. They also had the chance to become detectives in the forensics lab, try their hand at solving crimes and follow the Lock-up Mouse Trail designed especially for young investigators.
