Sandwell’s Drug Education, Counselling and Confidential Advice service (DECCA) celebrated a huge milestone on Tuesday as colleagues and partners came together for the service’s 20th Anniversary.
The event opened with a look back at DECCA’s journey, how the team has adapted, expanded and continued to support young people through changing times. It set the tone for an afternoon full of pride, appreciation and reflection.
The team shared moving and personal reflections about the support some of the young people and parent’s received. DECCA have reached nearly 450,000 children and young people over the years – a truly remarkable achievement.
Colleagues from Black Country Women’s Aid shared their reflections on the Bloom project which is a collaborative programme supporting girls in alternative education. Their contribution highlighted the strength of partnership working and the difference it can make when services come together with a shared purpose.
The afternoon was supported by Teo from the Executive Management Team and Board Member Linda Sanders, whose attendance reflected the wider recognition of DECCA’s long‑standing impact.
To finish the celebration, the Education Team hosted an awards ceremony recognising schools that have worked closely with DECCA over the years. It was a brilliant way to acknowledge the positive partnerships that help young people thrive.
Overall, DECCA’s 20th anniversary was a warm, thoughtful and inspiring celebration – a true reflection of the team’s dedication, values and the lives they continue to touch.
